Lafarge Cement Syria (LCS) |
LCS entered the Syrian Market in 2008, and built a cement factory in Ein Al-Arab 160 km northeast of Aleppo. The facility is equipped with the most modern energy saving equipment and complies with the most stringent international environment and safety standards. This project is to date the largest foreign investment in this sector and undoubtedly one of the largest private industrial investments in Syria.
The plant started producing clinker in 2010 with an annual production capacity of approximately 3 million tons (representing over one third of local needs). It has its own thermal power plant with a capacity of 60 MW due to the difficulty Syria faces in securing its own needs of electricity.
LCS contributed to promoting Syrian economy forward and supporting local development in the area where the plant is located. It has also helped Syria give up importing its own need of cement which amounted to 10 million tons in 2011.
